Expectant moms in their third trimester typically undergo something called "nesting"; that is, they start obsessively cleaning and organizing their home in preparation for the arrival of baby.
I know I've definitely been undergoing nesting these past few weeks. I've suddenly felt compelled to clean up, organize the room, list down things that need to be bought ....
When I first got married, I bought a few books on homemaking and house-organizing. By far, of all the books I bought the one that has been most helpful has been Help! I'm Knee-Deep in Clutter!: Conquer the Chaos and Get Organized Once and For All
, which I bought in Fully Booked. It's a slim volume, but the way that the book is organized makes it so easy to use.
The book is organized into chapters for each room of your house (bedroom, kitchen, garage, etc.), plus additional chapters on paperwork, photos, parties, and other aspects of the house that are an entire project altogether. What I like most about the book is that the author's instructions on how to organize each room is separated into very doable two- to three-hour steps that you can just do one weekday after dinner, or on a Saturday morning.
So rather than feeling overwhelmed about the immensity of having to organize all the paperwork that you've stashed in those spare drawers, you can just do Step 1 on a relatively free weekday evening ... then postpone Step 2 to next week ... then Step 3 and 4 to the next long weekend ... and so forth.
That way, you get a sense of accomplishment without feeling overwhelmed. You also don't end up with a dozen half-finished home organization projects.
This book has definitely helped with the nesting I've been undergoing in preparation for baby's arrival.
